Birchbox vs. MyGlam

The concept of Birchbox is great and I’ve been introduced to some good products through my monthly subscriptions.  However, as the months went by there were more and more skin products and in a couple of boxes, no makeup at all.  This might not be an issue for some of you, but I personally don’t like to change up my skincare routine that often and would much rather experiment with makeup.

Michelle Phan, famous YouTube makeup guru, just recently launched MyGlam, which is the same exact concept as Birchbox.  For a flat rate of $10 per month, you will receive a Glam Bag filled with 4 or 5 full-sized products or deluxe-sized samples.  I assume the first few months will include good products to draw in new customers so I’m anxious to receive my first bag.

The main difference between the two companies is that with MyGlam, you can preview your bag before it ships and suspend your subscription for that month if you don’t like the products that will be delivered.  However, I like the element of surprise so I probably won’t preview my bag every month…unless I start getting disappointed. =)  It is a good option to have though.

If you’re like me and just want to test it out on a trial basis, make sure to select the monthly subscription instead of the yearly subscription.  Although you save $20 with the yearly subscription, you won’t be able to cancel if you’re not satisfied after a couple of months.  In the long run, you’d be losing more money.

Since MyGlam is a new company, it probably doesn’t have as many sponsors but that may change as the months go on.  Let’s hope for more makeup products from MyGlam!  I’ll keep you posted. =)

UPDATE:  MyGlam does not allow you to suspend your subscription like I originally saw on their website.  Sorry gals!

The part that says you can preview your bag and suspend your account if you don’t like those products is absolutely %100 false. Yes, MyGlam gives hints on Facebook that make it easy to guess the products before you get them, however, this is only done after everyone has been billed on the first of that month. You cannot “skip” a month unless you unsubscribe before you are billed. After that, you are put on a waiting list if you want to subscribe again.

    • Lauren, thank you for bringing this to my attention. When I first researched and signed up for MyGlam, they had the option on their site but no longer do. I’ll definitely update the blog post. Thanks again!
